– Flat Rate Shipping – this is a very commonly used option, which allows you to apply a fixed shipping price either per item or shipment. It is an appropriate solution for small businesses. Here is a a list of the options you need to configure before you start using this shipping method:

Enabled – here you need to specify if this method is enabled on your store or not.
Title – This should be the descriptive title of the method.
Method Name – this is the name, which would be displayed in the shopping cart.
Type – here you should set if the shipping will be calculated per item or per order.
Price – the price you want to charge for this shipping method.
Calculate Handling Fee – define if the handling fee will be fixed or it will be a percentage of the shipping price.
Handling Fee – this is the amount of the additional handling fee. If you do not want to charge such enter 0.
Displayed Error Message – here you can enter an error message which will be displayed in case that the Flat Rate shipping method is not available.
Ship to Applicable Countries – here you can specify if this shipping method will be applicable for all allowed countries or only specific ones.
Ship to Specific Countries – if the Flat Rate shipping is set to specific countries you need to set them here.
Show Method if Not Applicable – it is advisable the method to be hidden in case it is not applicable.
Sort Order – the position of this method in the list of all shipping options.

– Free Shipping – this shipping method can attract more people to your website and this is one of the most widely used promotions that you can offer. It can be based on a minimum purchase or upon some conditions. These are the parameters you should configure:

When you are configuring the shipping options of your store you can also specify the carriers that your customers can choose from when submitting an order.

The most commonly used carriers worldwide are:

UPS – United Parcel Service – this is a carrier that offers both domestic and international shipping by land and air. The countries their service can be used in are more that 220.
USPS – The United States Postal Service – even though they are US based, they offer worldwide shipping. You can choose from land or air services.
FedEx – very similar to UPS this carrier provides local and international shipping services to more that 200 countries.
DHL – also very commonly used carrier, which provides local and international shipping. It is applicable both for large items and documents.

Of course there are local carriers that are based on the specific country your business is located in and you can use their services as well.
