OpenCart faq

We are glad to inform you that all of our servers and hosting packages meet the application's system requirements. Simply run the installation and start building your online store.

If your are experiencing issues with some template or module for OpenCart application after brand new installation, note that a lot of the modules and templates for OpenCart needs side extensions in order to work properly.

One of the most common cases are that your application will look for a vQmod or OCMOD which are not installed by default or not installed correctly. The good news are that most of the above mentioned features are included in the packages of the modules/templates, but they required to be installed in first place.

Once this step is fulfilled correctly, you can proceed with the desired installation, without worrying that you will face the same issue again.

Like every other E-commerce application, OpenCart includes the Multi Store feature, which is very suitable for example, when you need to create a mobile version of your website or add new web-store under your main website.

The first step is to create subdomain from your cPanel account with desired name and afterwards, you will need to access your OpenCart administration area.

In order to create the new store, navigate to System > Settings and click the ‘Insert’ button. This will lead to the page, where you will setup your new web-store.

For the Store URL and SSL URL, enter your new domain(subdomain in this case), adding https:// to the SSL URL if you have a certificate installed. Make sure you close your entries with a ‘/’ or it will not work.

vQmod is the most widely used of the four override systems available today. vQmod parses the xml files during page load and applies the modifications to the target files. The result is saved as a temporary modified file, which is then loaded by OpenCart instead of the original one. This means vQmod doesn’t make any direct changes to the actual OpenCart application core files. Because of this, the modifications are non-destructive and the original files are left intact – you can always revert all changes, simply by removing the desired xml file.

OCMOD is basically similar version of vQmod system built into OpenCart platform. Unlike vQmod, OpenCart has a built-in OCMOD modification uploaded and manager. In addition to this, OCMOD allows you to specify extra SQL and PHP code to be executed during modification installation in separate install.php and install.sql files.

Both vQmod and OCMOD are meant to be used for the same purpose and both have their pros and cons.If you're starting something from scratch, you may as well try OCMOD first since it's part of OpenCart.

This is a very common issue in OpenCart application and it indeed it’s not pleasant when your are the super administrator of your own web-store.

Basically, it means that one of your model, for example /Blog,FAQ and even Template/ needs custom permissions in order to correspondent correctly with the application and if not enabled after the installation, you will face the above mentioned issue.

However, you can quickly resolve the issue, simply by accessing your administration area of your OpenCart application and navigate to SYSTEM > USERS > USERS GROUPS and click EDIT on the “Administrator / Top Administrator”. Afterwards, click “Select All” on both “Access Permission” and “Modify Permission” and then “Save” in the top right corner, which should resolve the above issue.

The above issue is strictly related with the permissions of your hosting account and your application, which can prevent you from access to your web-store even after a fresh installation of the application.

Every single application require permissions in order to work properly and if these permissions are not allowed, even if you reinstall the application you will continue to experience the above mentioned error.

In order to resolve it, you will need to access your cPanel account > File Manager and navigate to the root folder, where you have installed the application and change the permissions of all files to 644 and all directories to 755.

OpenCart platform is flexible and user friendly application, which allows you to manage your installations of modules easily and quickly.

When you already have your module on your local machine, the first step is to configure your FTP settings inside your administration area of the application by navigating to System > Settings > click Edit on your website and navigate to > FTP. In that section, you will need to fill in the settings for your account, because without them, the application will not allow you to upload any modules.

Once the above step is completed, simply access your Extensions > Extensions Installer and upload your module to the application. Afterwards, you will need to access Extensions > Modules in order to install the module, with which the installation is completed.

The issue is related with the permissions of the folder, which is responsible for the image uploads and where all images are being stored. If you experience the above mentioned issue and before it, you were able to upload images without any issues, this is probably related with the configuration of the application and one of the last system changes that have been made.

One of the ways to resolve the issue is to access your cPanel account > File Manager > Navigate to the root folder of your application > change the permissions of image/ folder to 755 or 777 and try again the upload process.

The other common issue is that the application does not support the format of the image that you are trying to upload. In order to check the supported image formats of the application, you will need to access your administration area of OpenCart > Settings > click Edit on your store > navigate to Server tab and check the allowed extensions.

This is common issue that is triggered when enabling the above mentioned feature that your OpenCart application supports. In order to resolve it, you will need to access your administration area of OpenCart and navigate to System > Settings > click Edit on your website, then navigate to Server, where you can disable the option.

Once you disable the option and you are still unable to reach out your products, it means that the application have cached the the sessions and it needs to be cleaned in order to be able to access your products again. This can be performed by accessing your cPanel > File Manager > navigate to the root folder of your application and find image/cache/. Once you do this, delete all content, located in cache/ folder. After performing these steps, you should not have any issues with the access of your products again.

Unlike other similar applications, OpenЦart doesn't automatically generate SEO URLs and in order to generate such, your will need to create them manually by accessing Catalog > Products and Catalog > Categories.

In order to setup your email account to send notification or verification emails to your users, you will need to configure your application to work with SMTP service. To enable it, you will need to access to your administration area of your OpenCart application > System > Settings > click Edit on your website and navigate to > Mail.

Once you access the above page, you will need to select SMTP option from the drop down menu of Mail Protocol and fill the below labels with your host-name, email account, password for the email account, port (25) and click Save.

Note that if your email account or password are not typed correctly, the application will be unable to send emails, so it’s recommended to double-check your account details before typing them in.

In order to configure your application to work with https:// connection, the first step is to enable the option of your OpenCart application by accessing your administration area and navigate to System > Settings > click Edit, right of your domain and navigate to Server.

In the second tab (Security), the first option is “Use SSL”. Click “Yes” and then save the changes in order to configure the core files of the application to work with https:// connection.

The second and final step is to configure your .htaccess file of the application, simply by accessing your cPanel account > File Manager > locate the .htaccess file in your application folder and from there, simply follow the below tutorial:

Afterwards, simply save the new changes and access your website to verify your secure connection.
