phpBB faq

We can gladly confirm that all of our servers meet the system requirements of the phpBB script. You can simply deploy the application and start building your new forum.

PhpBB is one of the most widely used forum application around the world. Many customers consider it as a definition of a forum community. The phpBB script allows you to add attachments, provides you with a whole variety of emoticons that you can use to show exactly the emotion you want to express. Additionally, it offers unique features for having an engaging conversation and organizing the topics.

To access this feature you should first access the phpBB application as an administrator and navigate to User Control Panel > Usergroups. From this menu you can manage the membership levels and also manage the user groups privileges.

Within these two lists of members you can organize the users of your forum. The ones which are added as friends will be listed in your user control panel as quick references and you can easily send them private messages. You can also add users as foes in your lists which will hide all their posts for you by default.

There are two ways in which you can add a specific user either to your friends or foes list. The first one is via the user profile. Alternatively, you can manage these lists from your User Control Panel > Friends & Foes.

In phpBB bookmarking topics are almost the same as in a web browser. Subscribing, however, will notify you for every update to a topic or forum on the board. The notification options for both bookmarks and subscriptions can be managed via the User Control Panel > Board Preferences.

To add a topic to your bookmarks or subscriptions you simply need to click the appropriate link in the Topic tools menu available both on top and bottom of a topic discussion.

Like most of the forum platforms, you can add/post images in phpBB as well. Images can be shown in your posts, but note that this is only possible if the administrator of the board has allowed attachments. However, you can link an image, which is stored on a publicly accessible web server. Additionally, to display the image, you will have to use the BB Code [img] tag.

This option is not available unless you are a board administrator or moderator, otherwise, you can only edit or delete your own posts. You can edit a post by clicking the edit button for the relevant post, sometimes for only a limited time after the post was made.

It is also important to know that if a user makes changes to a post and information is displayed with details concerning the date and time when the post was edited and if a moderator or administrator makes changes they are not tracked.
The posts can be easily edited or deleted using the Edit post/Delete post buttons which are available at the top of the topic.

When posting a new topic or editing the first post of a topic, in order to create a poll, simply click the “Poll creation” tab below the main posting form. Note that if you cannot see this, you do not have appropriate permissions to create polls.

Afterward, enter a desired title and at least two options in the appropriate fields, making sure that each option is on a separate line in the text-area. You can also set the number of options users may select during voting under “Options per user”, a time limit in days for the poll and finally - the option to allow users to amend their votes. It’s good to know what is the limit for poll options, which is set by the board administrator. If you need to add more options to your poll than the allowed amount, simply contact the board administrator.

This is a matter of security and reassurance that there would not be any inappropriate information on your forum. By reviewing each post before posting it you can guarantee that no spam posts or topics would be created and also you can avoid the offensive tone among the threads.
