What is SSL certificate?
The SSL certificate is a small file containing an encrypted text which the web browsers use to make a secure encrypted connection to the server where the visited websites is being hosted on. SSL is used to secure credit card transactions, data transfer and logins, and even social media sites.
Once a secure connection is established, all web traffic between the web server and the web browser will be secure. Browsers tell visitors a website is SSL secure via a padlock icon:
