The attributes and the attribute groups are actually a basic information that can be assigned to the products you add to your store.

For example if you are selling clothes you can add the Size attribute group which has the Length attribute.

Another example is if you are selling mobile phones and laptops. Here you can add the Processor attribute group and the Clockspeed and Number of cores attributes.

Here we will show you how to add and assign attribute groups and attributes to the products of your OpenCart store.

First you will need to go to the dashboard of the application.

Then go to Catalog > Attributes > Attribute groups:

By clicking the Add New button you can add a new attribute group:

Adding the “Sort Order” is optional. Adding a sort order will affect the arrangement order of attributes under Product Comparison. The attribute groups created here can have individual attributes added to them later.

Now we will add an attribute to the attribute group we have just created.

Go to Catalog > Attributes > Attributes:

To create a new attribute, click “Add New“. This button will direct you to a page asking for the “Attribute Name”, “Attribute Group”, and “Sort Order”.

Next we will show you how to assign the newly created attribute to an existing product of your store.

When you start typing the Attribute name it will be displayed in a dropdown menu from where you can select it. The Attribute Group is also shown. Next you need to add the Text related to the attribute and click the Save button:
