phpBB Automatic Installation

You can install phpBB on a TMDHosting account in two ways:

Automatically via Fantastico - You will be able to install and configure your forum website in only a few clicks of the mouse, and you will be ready to begin building your site. You do not need any technical knowledge.

Manually - Advanced users prefer this method due to the fact that they want to follow closely the process of installation and make any customizations right away. If you prefer to install phpBB manually, you can take a look at the section phpBB Manual Installation.

This tutorial section will give you the instructions for installing phpBB automatically via the Fantastico Auto-Installer.

Please log in to your cPanel to start the installation. When you get in the cPanel, look for the Fantastico icon with a blue smiling face and click it.

Having logged into Fantastico, you should select the phpBB link from the list of scripts which appears on the left:

You will be prompted to choose several things on the next page as they directly influence the installation. Firstly, choose the domain (sub-domain) name for which you want the script to be installed. You can do this via the Install on domain drop-down menu. It is not obligatory to have more than one domain name listed in the drop-down menu.

It depends on the fact if you have or do not have for your account any add-on or sub-domain names added. If you want to have your forum installed directly for your domain name, you can leave the box [Install in directory] blank. You should know that you can install only one script under the same directory.

This also applies to the web root directory for your domain name, and for different scripts you have to use different sub-directories. You can particularize a directory, e.g forum, in case you would like to install your phpBB at an URL of type: http://www.yourdomain.com/forum

Next, for your new phpBB forum you should choose the desired login details. Add the desired administrator login details and password for the new forum under the Admin access data.

The options of The Base configuration are very expository themselves. Besides, after the instillation you can change them all. Once adjusted all details that correspond to your needs, you can click the button [Install phpBB].

A new page will be loaded, if everything is right, and it has summarized information about the installation and a Finish installation button.

Click the button to perform the actual installation. Note that this step should not be interrupted if you want to complete it successfully. The forum URL and the URL to the administrative backend and the previously set administrative login details will be displayed on the next page.

Now, you have the automatic installation completed.
